Frederic S. Ury recently attended the American Bar Association's "ABA Day," in Washington, D.C., where Fred joined his ABA colleagues from across 50 states to advocate on behalf of the legal profession and the justice system. United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor hosted the Capitol Hill Reception, and Members of Congress were honored for their efforts to improve the justice system. The focus of this year's ABA Day is funding for the Legal Services Corporation, reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, and the Crime Victim Restitution and Court Fee Intercept Act. 

Moskow Wyeth Prempo Recent Verdict - Ury & Moskow and Bubalo Rotman secured a $4 million verdict plus punitive damages against Wyeth, Inc., on behalf of their client who developed breast cancer after taking Prempro.

Frederic S. Ury was recently appointed by American Bar Association President Carolyn Lamm to serve on the ABA's newly formed Commission on Ethics 20/20.  Mr. Ury, along with 12 other ethics commission members from throughout the United States, will review lawyer ethics rules and regulations across the United States in the context of a global legal services marketplace.  The commission falls under the ABA's Center for Professional Responsibility. 

Fred, a nationally recognized speaker, spoke at the Idaho State Bar Annual Conference on July 14-16, 2009.  Fred also recently lectured on “The Future of the Legal Profession” at the Vermont Bar Association’s annual convention in Montreal, Canada. Fred also teaches “Basic Civil Procedure in Connecticut,” an annual course Fred conducts for the Connecticut Bar Association.  During August 2009, Fred participated in Charity Treks, Inc.'s annual fundraising event, bicycling 445 miles from Burlington, VT to Portland, ME. 

Neal L. Moskow was elected Co-Chair of the Trasylol Litigation Group at the American Association for Justice's Annual Meeting, held in San Francisco, California on July 24-29, 2009.  As Co-Chair of the TLG, Neal will help educate the AAJ's members as to the various aspects of the Trasylol Litigation and facilitate the exchange of information and ideas across the organization's membership generally - and to the members of the TLG in particular.  The AAJ (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America or ATLA) is the world's largest trial bar organization made up of lawyers from the United States, Canada, and countries all over the world.  In addition to his position with the AAJ's TLG, Neal's national leadership role in the Trasylol Litigation has led to his involvement in generic and case specific depositions in New Haven, CT, New York, NY, Iowa City, IA, Lexington, KY, Fargo, ND, Los Angeles, CA, and Amsterdam, Netherlands.  Neal is also very involved in the In Re:  Trasylol, Federal Multi-District Litigation, Plaintiffs' Steering Committee's ongoing organizational work, having helped to shape the litigation as well as having appeared and argued at various hearings in West Palm Beach, FL.

Neal L. Moskow spoke at National Business Institute’s 2008 conference on Resolving Problems and Disputes on Construction Projects. Neal’s presentation included several topics, such as understanding complex construction contracts before they are signed, managing contract changes, and handling threats of contract termination.

Ury & Moskow’s pharmaceutical litigation group recently resolved more than three dozen Zyprexa claims, recovering millions and millions of dollars for our clients. The firm continues to represent clients who were injured after ingesting Zyprexa, as well as those clients suffering damages caused by Hormone Replacement Therapy, Vioxx and Ephedra.

Neal L. Moskow’s half-million-dollar jury verdict in Stamford Wrecking Company v. United Stone America, Inc. was recently upheld by the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts after Neal briefed and argued the issues.

Ury & Moskow partner Edward “Ted” Parr spoke at the American Association for Justice’s annual convention in Seattle, Washington. Ted’s topic, “FDA Reporting Requirements for Ethical Pharmaceuticals,” focused on the complex relationship between the United States government, the pharmaceutical companies and the public.

Frederic S. Ury & Neal L. Moskow were named to Law & Politics Connecticut Super Lawyers 2006 for general litigation. An annual honor reserved for the top 5% of Connecticut's lawyers, the designation is based on a multi-step process involving a survey of Connecticut lawyers, research into each attorney's qualifications and accomplishments, and final review/selection by a distinguished blue-ribbon panel. The article appeared in the February, 2006 issue of Connecticut Magazine.

Frederic S. Ury successfully completed his one-year term as the 81st president of the Connecticut Bar Association on July 1, 2005. As a past president, Fred continues to chair the Association's Continuing Legal Education Committee. Fred also serves on the Bench-Bar Committee and the Task Force on Civil Justice. Recently, Fred has also served on various blue ribbon panels addressing issues and needs effecting the legal profession. In addition to all of his other duties, Fred is chairman of the Council of Bar Presidents.

Frederic S. Ury was elected to the Executive Council of the National Council of Bar Presidents. Membership in the organization is contingent upon serving as president of a state or metropolitan bar association. The fifteen members of the Executive Council are elected to serve as the board of directors for the NCBP. The NCBP governs and administers continuing legal education programs throughout the United States for state and local bar associations, as well as to ensure that all bar association presidents have the information they need to effectively advance their members' interests.

Neal L. Moskow has recently received recognition from two important organizations. The Connecticut Bar Foundation named Neal a James W. Cooper Fellow, a distinction that salutes him for his professional and civic accomplishments. In addition, Neal was certified as a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an association generally recognized as including the top trial lawyers in America. Membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum is reserved for lawyers who have recovered million and multi-million dollar awards for clients.
